Venango Valley Inn and Golf Course

Challenging greens, manicured fairways

This mature, well groomed course offers both wooded and open fairways, a number of strategically placed sand bunkers and large, challenging greens.

Venango Valley was constructed in 1968 by Kemp and Erath. Paul Erath, the construction supervisor for Arnold Palmer’s Laurel Valley Golf Course in Ligonier PA, brought his skill and experience gained from working with the great Arnold Palmer to design and build Venango Valley.

The superb layout of the course provides ample tests of skill, but also lends itself to an enjoyable round for golfers of all levels.

1

Swing away on this opening dog leg left. Clear the trap to shorten the hole.

2

Our version of the Redan hole, one of the most popular hole templates in golf course design. This shot to the left leaves you in the deep bunker with the green rolling away from you.

3

Keep it in the fairway where you can have a shot at the pin on a left to right sloping green.

4

A well-placed tee shot will give you the proper angle to the pin placement, do not get above the hole.

5

A decent drive and you will have a good shot to a large green that looks like you can’t miss.

6

A good drive leaves you with a shot to a right to left sloping green.

7

Left off the tee and you may miss a good opportunity to par this hole.

8

Drivable for a good golfer. Play short of the ditch or go over leaves you with a down hill shot at a green that is sloping away from you… “roll it on”.

9

The only par 5 on the front is wide open. Easy to get there in 3 but this undulated green is well guarded by bunkers.

10

Nothing funny here, 2 good shots, slightly uphill and generally into the wind. Green can be tricky on this back to front sloping green.

11

Uphill, this hole plays longer than the yardage. Most golfers come up short.

12

You need a good drive to reach this in regulation. Center of the green slopes sharply to the right, with a large tree guarding the left side.

13

Slightly downhill, roll it on or fly it on.

14

Check out the pin location before you hit your drive. Crazy undulating green rolls left to right, stay below the hole.

15

A big drive can lead to big decisions. Is the risk worth the reward on this green surrounded by trouble?

16

Looks straight forward, except for the right to left sloping green.

17

A short par 4, drivable for some, protected by traps on the right and a big tree and fescues to the left. Use caution on this green.

18

An accurate second shot puts you in position to make par, a bad second shot will create a challenge.
